| RV-10 builders living in the Pacific Northwest, come together twice each year to have dinner,
swap building stories, meet one another and family members, check out a person's project,
and in general just take time to give encouragement, share some knowledge, but mainly to
get to know, enjoy and build the RV-10 community. These dinners were designed to be
more social events than the typical technical show-and-tell that characterizes most RV or EAA
chapter meetings. Builders and their significant others, including children, all attend.
The number of folks per event has grown since the first impromptu dinner held in 2005. We now have
30 to 40 individuals in attendance on a regular basis, and I expect that as more RV-10 projects are started, and as
more people become aware of the existence of the dinner, this number will go up slightly. You don't
have to live in the Pacific NW to attend. We've had folks from Canada, Arizona, Nevada and Minnesota.
Let me know if you're planning on being here for transition training or a test flight and perhaps we
can work a dinner to match your schedule.
Also, in case you wish to begin this type of get together in your neck of the woods, let me say that
after trying different formats, including meeting at local restaurants, the most successful and relaxed
appears to be the tried and true smorgasbord at a builder's house. We are all asked to bring side
dishes that compliment a themed main dish that is catered. The expense of the catering is covered by
everyone chipping in a few dollars. Costs per person are also kept down by asking those who want to
drink to bring their own. Of course most also bring a hostess gift as a small thank-you.
The last two dinners have been fly-ins, with 7 RV-10's on hand at one (for a PDF artical on this dinner,
click here). Event pictures are given below. Click on any of the smaller pictures to be taken to an event album.
For some unknown reason, I have become the organizer of these dinners. If you are an RV-10 builder
and flyer and would like to attend, or if you would like to know more about how we make these happen,
drop me an email message or give me a call. I'd be glad to help.
The next dinner is scheduled for August 28, 2009, at Independence (7S5) in Oregon. Come on! Join us for some good fellowship.
