Step 1. Dimple the holes in both of the flanges of the E-1002 front spars to accept the skin dimples. 10/31/06 - 45 minutes |
Step 2. Machine countersink 29 holes in the E-1007 rear spar, top flange only. I did these "by hand." That is I took the manual deburring tool and used that instead of the cage. Sometimes I feel I have better control, and in this case the flanges are at an angle. I couldn't figure out how to countersink 90 degrees to the flanges, except by using the deburring tool. The angle is 100 degrees, so it's fine to use as a countersink. Once you've finished these for both spars, then dimple the rest of the holes on the rear spar flanges. You need to use a yoke that can get inside. I used my 3" and it worked out okay. Apologies for the lack of photos. I'll try to go back and grab some. 12/31/06 - 1 hour 10 minutes |
Step 3. There are 3 holes in the front spar web and two in the rear spar web that are used to hold the front and rear flanges of the root ribs. These need to be dimpled. The flush part of the dimples is on the outside of the web, that is, away from the root rib flanges. 12/31/06 - 5 minutes |
Step 4. Now, dimple the 3/32" holes in the flanges (fore and aft) of the root ribs to match what you just did in the spars. Once these are finished, do the rest of the holes on the side flanges of the root ribs that will accept the dimples from the skins. 12/31/06 - 20 minutes |
