Step 1.   This is where you clean and prime all parts.  The instructions warn you to mask off the area you prepped for the foam ribs, since they need to be bonded to bare aluminum.  This I did, but I haven't primed yet because I think it best to prime everything all at once.  By everything, I mean the trim tabs as well.  Why set up for priming twice?  So, if you want, do what I did and skip to Page 9-16 and begin the trim tabs.  When you're done, come back here and prime everything.  (And, by the way, I'm removing the tape before prepping the skins for priming.  I doubt that the tape would survive the prep.)

02/24/07  -  30 minutes to mask and take off the plastic

Step 1 (cont'd).   I finished cleaning and priming all the parts, for both the elevators and the trim tabs.  I'm now ready to move on with both components.

03/08/07  -  8 hours for everything (cleaning, priming and some forgotten things that needed doing)

Step 2.   Rivet the E-903 and E-904 together for both left and right sides.

03/16/07  -  30 minutes

Step 3.   Rivet the counter balance skin (E-913) to the tip ribs that were riveted together in Step 2.  Now, make sure that you have the skin oriented correctly.  It can, and sometime does, go on incorrectly.  It fits very nicely that way.  There would be 50 rivets to drill out should you rivet it on incorrectly.  Amazingly, these types of things do happen!

03/17/07  -  1 hour with no drilling out of rivets.  Add an hour to drill out 50 rivets.

Step 4.   Rivet the two E-910 reinforcement plates onto the E-1002 front spars, as indicated.  When you've got all four on, then go back and rivet the nut plates.  Doing it in this order you don't have to readjust the squeezer settings as much.

If you're tired at this point, you can stare at the 50 or so K1000-06 nut plates and wonder how any of those would work if riveted onto the E-910s.  Then, with some mental giant effort, you determine that the nut plates needed are the K1000-6.  The latter have a 3/8" hole, with standard 24 threads per inch.

03/17/07  -  30 minutes

Steps 5 & 6.   Rivet the E-905 root ribs into place on the E-1002 front spars.  Follow this with the snap bushings, as shown.  I put a little dab of E-6000 hobby glue (Walmart has it), just to make sure they stay put.

03/17/07  -  1 hour

Step 4.   Finally, for this page, Rivet the WD-605 left and right elevator horns to the E01002 front spars and root ribs.  Make sure they are oriented correctly.

03/17/07  -  1 hour
