Note:  I've added the word "innovation" to this section.   I keep finding great ideas by builders who have solved "problems" that go beyond a technique. They might not be true innovations, but, hey, I think they're cool.

For example, how does one move a set of wings around the shop after they arrive, if you are a QB kinda person, or after you've built them, if SB?   Well, several builders have created dollies for just such a purpose, while others have hung their wings in unique ways.  In this section I thought that I'd share those types of solutions, in addition to standard building techniques.   When the section gets too long I'll include a drop down list, if I ever figure out how to do drop down lists.   Let's start with about the most simple of techniques, removing plastic strips from the aluminum.

Technique #1 Removing plastic strips from rivet holes
Where Found: Mostly has to do with skins
Description: When you want to get rid of some of the blue plastic, but only enough to expose rivet holes.
Solution: Use soldering iron and steel ruler

Now, here's one thing I discovered, for those of you who like to remove a strip of plastic that sits on top of a rivet line, leaving the majority of plastic on to protect the alclad.  Do the deed while the skins are still clecoed to the frame.  It is so much easier (at least for the outside of the skins) to do it at this time.

Technique & Innovation Pages are devoted to those building tips or tricks that I or other builders have discovered.   The topics will be varied, from metal working techniques, fiberglass, to engine tips.  Feel free to write me with your own technique and I'll insert them, along with due credit.  Make sure you attach digital photos, if possible.   Note:  These techniques are only meant to stimulate thought and are not recommended by me.  Check with an expert before using!
