Wings

I decided not to do QB wings, which I may end up regretting, especially after unpacking and doing inventory.  The number of nut plates is downright daunting.  Where do they all go?   Anyway, funds made me do it.  I have an RV-10 builder right next to my hanger who also has a slow build set of wings and another builder on the other side of me who has the QB wings (That's right, 3 RV-10's a-building in a row, with one completed right behind us.).  No doubt at all who will get in the air sooner.

This is fellow RV-10 builder, Bruce Breckenridge.  He is the slow build wing hanger neighbor.  Bruce happens to be the nicest guy in the world, especially because he not only lent me his empty wing boxes and his trailer, but he came with me to Van's to pick up my wing parts.  He also did most of the heavy lifting, given that my back was giving me trouble (or so I told him!).

It was a rainy, deary day when Bruce and I went over to Van's to move the wing parts from their dolly into the boxes.  They kindly let us move the trailer into the shipping area so we wouldn't get wet.

From left to right:   Bruce's boxes packed, ready to be lidded.   The unique QB dolly stands that were developed at Van's and obviously put to good use.  Next, a nice rear shot of Bruce, who was simply great.  He took over and got everything packed up, boxed up, hooked onto the truck, then moved the trailer into the hanger.  A little Charlie Chaplin in him, I do believe.

Finally, on the far right, the trailer is safely back in the shop with only a few drops of water inside.  It was raining that day, not hard but the roads were wet.  Before leaving Van's, we buttoned everything up as best we could, using screws to hold down the lids and, of course, duct tape to seal the edges.  Worked great.

Since these pictures were taken, we've finished the inventory, emptied the boxes, put all the parts away on shelves and in plastic containers.  I'm still working on the empenage, so the wings won't be tackled until March 2006?  We'll see.

Well!  March has come and gone and the elevators and tailcone are still not finished.  Any bets that I might start the wings by Fall?
